Description:
The AS-1857/SRA-43 is an integral part of the TN-438/SRA-43
RF Tuner. The antenna, tuner and Antenna Control Unit
C-6828/SRA-43 comprise Antenna Group AN/SRA-43. The
AS-1857/SRA-43 is a 60 inch whip antenna mounted on a base
feedthrough insulator attached to the rf tuner housing. The
antenna element is a copper rod encased in fiberglass. The
RF tuner is remotely controlled by the C-6828/SRA-43 control
unit. The antenna group may be used with any receiving
equipment capable of operating within its frequency range.
Since the tuner is the mounting base for the antenna the
following specifications and requirements include both
units.
Installation: The tuner unit may be mounted
either horizontally or vertically. The tuner may be attached
to a suitable mounting plate by four 3/8 inch bolts with
bolt holes centered on 9 inch by 20-1/4 inch centers.
Because of the small size of the tuner and antenna che unit
is often installed on yardarms, mast platforms, stacks and
other locations not suitable for larger antennas. Care
should be exercised in selecting locations that will not
cause interferences with signal halyards and the ships
rigging.
Considerations: The distance between the rf
tuner and the remote control unit should not exceed 150
feet. When the tuner is mounted on masts or structures
higher than 25 feet, fixed capacitors C3 and C4 should be
shunted to improve efficiency from 3.5 to 8 MHz. |
