Description:
The AS-2071/SRA-51 is an integral part of the CU-169l/SRA-51
Antenna Coupler. It is an electrically short, physically
small, top-hat monopole antenna. The AS-207l/SRA-51,
CU-1691/SRA-51 and C-7340/SRA-51 Antenna Coupler Control
comprise the AN/SRA-51 Antenna Group. The antenna group is
used to improve the performance of the ship's receiving
system by permitting normal operation of receivers in the
proximity of strong off frequency RF voltages from nearby HF
transmitters, radar equipment, etc., and by reducing the
parasitic effects from closely coupled shipboard antennas.
The antenna group may be used with any receiving equipment
capable of operating within its frequency range. Since the
coupler is the mounting base for the antenna the following
specifications and requirements cover both units.
Installation: The antenna coupler should be
deck mounted to facilitate maintenance. It may be mounted on
masts or other areas of the ship's superstructure. However,
maintenance may require removal and lowering to deck levels.
Placing the unit within a nominal 15 feet of metal
structures should be avoided. The minimum allowable distance
between the coupler unit antenna and the antenna of a 1
kilowatt transmitter is 20 feet. The coupler maybemounted to
a suitable foundation by eight 1/2 inch bolts.
Considerations: A source of dry air is required
to purge and pressurize the coupler unit each time the
interior is exposed to the environment. A humidity indicator
is located within the unit and it must be replaced each time
the cabinet is opened. |
