Description:
The AS-2804/SRR Antenna is a conformal fan receiving antenna
initially designed for use onboard LHA amphibious assault
ships. It consists of a three wire, wire rope fan installed
between the ship's deck and a yardarm. The upper ends of the
fan elements are mechanically and electrically grounded at
the yardarm terminations. This type of antenna makes use of
the ship's structure as a part of the radiator. To obtain
the desired frequency coverage with this antenna the
dimensions of the fan, fan spread and distance from ship's
structure at top and bottom of fan must be determined,
usually through a model study. After installation these
dimensions must be maintained to obtain satisfactory
operation. The antenna may be used with receiving equipments
capable of operating within its frequency range.
Installation: The insulators at the lower end
of the fan may be secured to padeyes on the deck. The upper
ends of the fan are terminated at the yardarm. Standard
antenna fittings and insulators are used in constructing the
antenna.
Considerations: The area in the vicinity of the
base of the antenna should be kept clear of interferences
for at least three feet. After installation the individual
wires must be stressed to specifications. |
