Description: Antenna AS-1789/SLR-12 is a rotatable direction finding antenna used withAN/SLR-12 Countermeasures Receiving Set. The antenna consists of a main cylindrical housing that contains the antenna drive motor, rotating joint, and synchro generator and tachometer to provide antenna azimuth and speed information to the central unit. The rotating antenna is mounted on the upper platform of this housing. The RF section of the crystal video receiver and a test source to check system performance are located in the lower portion. A clamp-on radome protects the antenna from the weather and a similar type of enclosure covers the equipment in the lower section. The functions of the antenna are controlled from the C-6612/SLR Control Indicator.

Installation: The center housing has two 23 x 1 - 1/2 angle brackets for mounting the antenna. Each bracket has two 9/16 inch diameter bolt holes on 19 - 3/4 inch centers for attachment to a platform or other suitable structure. The antenna should be mounted sufficiently high to provide omnidirectional horizon coverage. It should not be installed in the main beam of any high-power transmitting equipment. The bench mark on the antenna housing must be aligned with the fore and aft centerline of the ship. A minimum space of 13 inches above and 9 inches below the antenna must be provided to permit removal of the radomes for servicing.

Considerations: Since the output to the receiver is a video signal, the distance between the antenna and control unit is not critical. However, this distance should not exceed 600 feet.
