Description:
The AS-2431/SLA-15 is a trainable antenna used with
electronic countermeasures equipment. It consists of a fixed
pedestal assembly that supports the rotating upper and lower
pillbox assemblies containing the antenna elements. The
pedestal contains the drive motor, rotating joints, and slip
rings. The pillboxes are geared to each other and rotate
simultaneously. The upper pillbox mounts a circularly
polarized receiving horn and two circularly polarized
direction-finding horns. The DF horns are skewed to provide
for amplitude comparison capability. The lower pillbox
mounts the circularly polarized transmitting horn. The
antenna functions are controlled by a C-8271/SLA-15 control
Indicator (Local) or a C-8270/SLA-15 Control Indicator
(Remote). Two antennas are normally installed, one port and
one starboard, on board ship to provide 360 degree coverage.
Installation: The pedestal has an upper and
lower mounting boss. Each boss has four 3/8 inch bolt holes
on 1 - 1/2 inch vertical centers and 13 - 3/4 inch
horizontal centers for use in mounting the assembly. The
AS-2431/SLA-15 is usually mounted between the AS-2430/SL
antennas on a common vertical structure. The assembly should
be installed as far outboard as possible to obtain maximum
unobstructed coverage. The area in the vicinity of the
antennas should be clear of reflecting surfaces. The swing
circle radius for this antenna is 18 inches.
Considerations: The antenna assembly and its
associated waveguides require pressurization not to exceed 2
psig from a source of dry air. The lengths of all waveguides
used with this assembly should not exceed 25 feet. |
