- Description: A
gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches
(3.02cm) in height overall consisting of a gold bayonet
and pickaxe saltirewise between four white ermine spots
and extending slightly over a scarlet enamel square with
point up.
- Symbolism: The
bayonet and pickaxe allude to combat engineering. The
pickaxe also symbolizes gold mining and refers to
California, "the Golden State" where the Group
was first activated at Fresno. The four ermine spots
stand for the units battle honors in Europe, World
War II: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and
Ardennes-Alsace. Scarlet and white are colors used by
the Engineers.
